SEMCORP Shanghai and Teijin of Japan Have Reached Patent Cooperation Further

SEMCORP Shanghai  has reached an in-depth cooperation with Teijin of Japan in the field of water-based coated lithium battery separator, in which Teijin will transfer its core patented technologies in the fields such as water-based polymer coating and water-based inorganic coating to SEMCORP.

Since 2019, Shanghai SEMCORP and Teijin of Japan have carried out in-depth cooperation in the field of solvent-based (oil-based) coated separator for lithium ion secondary battery. Both sides have made great progress in joint development, intellectual property sharing, technical cooperation and so on. In 2020, they signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement consisting of an all-inclusive patent licensing agreement, a cooperative development agreement and a technical support agreement. All these further expanded their partnerships.

Lithium ion secondary battery has been widely used in smart phones, laptops and other electronic products. In the context of ever-changing global environmental regulations, more and more vehicles are becoming electric, which makes the demand of safe lithium ion secondary battery with long driving range expand rapidly.

In this context, in order to further strengthen the cooperation in the field of coated separator, Shanghai SEMCORP and Teijin of Japan recently signed a technical patent share transfer agreement on the manufacture of water-based coated separator for lithium ion secondary battery. By integrating their respective advantages of base film manufacturing technology, coating technology and intellectual property rights, they further strengthened their competitiveness in the business related to lithium battery separator. And Teijin of Japan will transfer several patents to Shanghai SEMCORP this time in the form of share transfer, which involves many countries and regions, as well as technical fields such as water-based polymer coating and water-based inorganic coating mainly.

The signing of this patent share transfer agreement further deepens the partnership between the two sides, which can improve the intellectual property system of Shanghai SEMCORP and enhance its competitiveness in the global market. In the future, the scope of cooperation between the two sides will continue to expand. Through further joint development, we will meet the future demand of separator with high security, long life and low cost.
